Bio

Bade Finn is a multidisciplinary artist with a passion for ceramics. Born and raised in southern Ontario, she began exploring with clay at H.B. Beal’s advanced art program, Bealart, in 2017. Soon after she attended Sheridan College for their Craft and Design program in Oakville Ontario, until 2023. Now they have returned to London ON, and are continuing their artistic practice.

Bade’s sculptures feature bright colours, intense emotions, and twisted figures. They take inspiration from their passion for nature & insects, and combine them with their vivid imagination to create representations of their inner thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Besides ceramics, she is always looking to explore a new medium, including textiles, jewellery, and more.

Artist Statement

I have often felt different from others in my life. I wonder; What does their world look like compared to mine? I try to understand my identity by exploring these emotions within my ceramic figures.

I use solid clay to create accurate forms, then sever and hollow the pieces to reconstruct them as a whole again. I paint their surfaces using a combination of underglaze and glaze, creating an emotive colour palette to carry the narrative. Through bodies and faces that aren’t mine, I ruminate on aspects of my inner self as I present them to the world.

Within my work, I often feel as though I am trying to communicate a feeling I can't describe, a place I've never been to, or a face I've only seen in my dreams. I capture these fleeting moments of my own personal world like bugs in a jar.
